RUSSIAN BLUE cat pet
Ariane deR asked:

A Muslim family I know has a beautiful Russian Blue cat. The father said this cat was as loyal as a dog, and then said his kids had first wanted a dog but it was against their religion to have dogs in the house, so he got the cat & now they love it As I understand it, cats are considered OK both because they are known for cleanliness and because of stories of the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) loving cats and being against anyone hurting cats. (I like the one where the cat fell asleep on his robe and he cut the sleeve off rather than wake the kitty up! Also I heard that a follower of Muhammad was called the “Father of the Kitten” because he always carried a kitten around & petted it! They must have been a bunch of cat loving people!
Are dogs actually forbidden or just recommended against? And where does that come from? And what about other animals like birds, reptiles, rabbits, hamsters etc.? I Do any of you Muslims have pets and what kind?
