Can anything be done to improve Manx Cat Syndrome in an adult cat?

I have a 5 year old female bob-tail cat that is having trouble with urinary incontinence. My vet says this is due to her shortened spine. Does anyone know about this syndrome and if anything can be done to help? Also what are the long-term consequences? Will it shorten her life span?
